John And Marcine began their
construction business in the Santa Ynez Valley of California. Their first
projects were gentlemen ranches, setting up horse properties for those
escaping to the quiet country life.
They then moved on to
Northern New Mexico for 10 years, actually doing something a little
different but still keeping their hands in the construction trade. One fun
project was learning to work with adobe buildings, some over 200 years
old.
The Hughes then moved back to
California in the mid 1990's, settling in the Kern River Valley. Being in
the mountains was important to them, and you can't get much closer than
this. Here they added a new division to their business by combining
landscaping services. This has been a fun and challenging endeavor, dealing
with the high desert climate, finding the right plant combinations that
can handle the heat, cold, dryness and wind that is unique to this area.
Their experience in New Mexico has taught them that if it can live there, it
can live here. Add in the great selection of large granite and limestone
rocks & boulders and the effect can be dramatic.
Another new aspect of their
growing business is the joining with Pacific Modern Homes. Their territory
includes Kern, King and Tulare counties. These homes are panelized, pre
fabricated in Elk Grove, California. A visit to their website can give you a
glimpse of the high construction standards that these homes are built to.
Kiln dried wood, quality Milgard windows, Therma-tru doors and Hardie siding
are used throughout the many models PMI offers.
